Really tired
after LTB, but I must do this, for the learning journal.
Gonna write my thoughts on LTB here, so that I can just cut and paste my thoughts when I have to submit the journal.
I was deeply disturbed during the class discussion about position power and personal power and of values. The topic of office politics came into the picture, and I was disturbed not so much by the fact of the existence of office politics, but by the fact that how some of us actually reacted to it. Different people have different values, and I believe we must learn to respect this difference. But I was disturbed by some of my fellow LTB-mates' answers. From the way they reacted, I could tell them these people very well are the ones that are going to be practicing office politics in the future.
Sure, I believe I can ask 30 people whether they like office politics and my guess is that 95% of them will say that they don't. But the question is not whether we like office politics or not. The bigger question is whether we will USE it! I mean, many people here can say , " Oh, office politics are bad and all" but when it comes to crunch time, will that person stick by his/her own values and live by them , or choose to say, " Oh, in reality life is not perfect, and everyone is doing it anyway, so if I don't do it, I'll lose out. "
For me, I believe that long-term success never comes of people who think like this. As I hear so many times, they may win the battle, but they'll lose the war.
Matthew 16:26
For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
I don't know how office politics will play out, but we've all seen that all great men are men of great character. They are not men who conform to standards placed by people around them. And they are certainly not the people who decide that office politics should be played out. It just pure disgusting in my eyes.
The question here is whether we would commit ourselves to living a life of excellence, of abundance, of love, of peace, of prosperity, or we would choose to live a life of mediocrity, to just follow what everyone is doing, and live a life of lack, of hatred, of selfishness, of poverty, of strained relationships, of frustation, of stress, of worry. Would we choose to allow God to move in our lives and become great people that live by the right values, or choose to be mediocre and just get through life and be as we are?
I don't know whether when it comes to crunch time, will I do what is to be done to please my superiors, or will I choose to please God, if it means to be persecuted by men. I know they'll be days that I fall short, but nonetheless I believe in what I'm saying.
Someday, I want to do something great for God, and I only know a subject called office politics is not in my vocabulary. Alot of people tell me I just see the world through an ideal set of eyes. That's true. That's why our world is a broken world. That's why we need God in our lives. And having the world fall short of the glory of God does not give us a reason to follow the world's standards, for greater is He who is in me, than he who is in the world. Why are there accidents on our Singapore roads? Because people don't follow the traffic laws set by our government. Why is there suffering in the world? Because men don't follow God-made laws.
Sure, I'll lose out on many things if I don't follow and worse still, don't learn it. But I believe in working my life through eternal values and timeless principles, and building my house on the Rock.
It's also really disturbing to see some Christians that can say they love God, and put him first in our lives ON SUNDAY. And become the same old self-seeking person on Monday. Where is God on Monday to Saturday? Camping in the church?
Sigh. What a broken generation.
Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
