Mere Christianity
Just passed 12 o'clock into wednesday as I begin to type this.
I finally finished Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis today. He is truly an intellectual giant of his time, and personally, even now. Mere Christianity was written more half a century ago during the World War, and it puts the whole concept of Christianity in layman's terms, and argues with seemingly unshakable premises. His book is actually a very AS ( Analytical Skills) kinda book and it really takes concentration to get this points at times. Some of his concepts are pretty hard to understand but he has a habit of using analogies to put across his points, which makes it much easier to absorb.
If the name C.S Lewis sounds familiar, he is the author of the timeless classic The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. C.S Lewis used to be an atheist but received Christ into his heart during his university days, with friends around him like JRR Tolkien ( Lord of the Rings) and people's names whom I forgot.
C.S puts up some really powerful arguments for the case of Christ, and after that, talks about what it all means ( Social morality, sexual morality, faith, hope, marriage and so on) IF Christianity was true. I'm awed by the depth of his understanding and thinking on the subject and he has also given me alot of revelations and new insights on my own beliefs. In a way, it has also strengthened my faith, for truly what false religion can withstand such scrutiny and intellectual bombardment.
I would like to write out some superb extracts from the book, but well its upstairs and its 130 am, so well, another day... Haha..
In a way, it helped me understand something about Christianity; it doesn't defy logic, in fact it answers all of life's question so beautifully.
Well, that's all for tonight, going to pray, anyway do check out the book, I think people who love intellectual book will find this book a great read =).
